Event: CLSA Winter Classroom Series Capsize Recovery and Safety Boat Rescue
Capsize Recovery and Safety Boat Rescue. Attend this 60-minute zoom workshop and learn how to safely recover from a capsize. We’ll review video footage of capsize recoveries and discuss the recovery techniques used for both single-hand and multi-person dinghies. We’ll also explain rescue considerations and best practices for safety boat operators when assisting with the rescue of a capsized boat.
Textbook: We will make reference to Learn Sailing Right Beginner and Learn Sailing Right Intermediate. Please bring them if you've purchased them for past classes, but these are not required. You can purchase these textbooks directly through US Sailing.

Event: CLSA Winter Classroom Series Spinnaker Handling
Spinnaker Handling. Attend this 60-minute zoom workshop and learn to sail with a symmetric spinnaker. We’ll review video training footage and discuss basic and intermediate spinnaker handling techniques that are common on boats sailed at Clinton Lake. We’ll review the processes for a hoist, jibe, and douse. Register today and meeting details will be sent to you the day of the workshop.

Event: CLSA Winter Classroom Series Crewing 101
Crewing 101. Attend this 60-minute zoom crew training workshop. Crewing at CLSA is a fun and affordable way to enjoy sailing. Flying Scot Fleet 135 and Thistle Fleet 66 both offer free crew development programs and have teamed up to bring you this workshop. We'll discuss communication, crew expectations, share tips and advice, and what is expected of crew during starts, tacks, and jibes. This will be a 30-minute presentation with 15-20 minutes of Q&A.

Intermediate Boat Handing. In this 60-minute workshop, we’ll help you take your sailing to the next level with weight management and sail trim techniques for more challenging wind conditions. We’ll discuss how to sail faster in light wind and how to better adjust in puffy conditions and gain ground on boats that do not. We’ll also discuss tips for smoother and faster tacks and jibes

Event: Development Days Small Boat Tuesday
Join other small boat sailors and coaches for small boat sailing on Tuesday evening. If there is enough interest, we will set up a short windward-leeward race course. Stick around after the racing for cold beverages, salty snacks, and exceptional camaraderie.

Free Flying Scot rigging lessons are offered every Wednesday at 4pm.

Event: Radioactive Racing Series (Flying Scot) Race 1

Flying Scot racers across three divisions will over three Saturdays at CLSA and compete for highly-coveted title belts. This Saturday event format allows local and regional guests to experience exceptional one-design racing and still be home for Saturday dinner with the family. Sailors who want to make it a full sailing weekend can enjoy Saturday evening social activities at the club and take part in the Sunday morning "more-fun-than-racing" Starting Clinic.

Starting clincis bring everyone together for maximum fun and maximum close-quartered action. We do not award prizes, but we promise you’ll walk away with more experience navigating the congestion at the start and mark soundings. Before we hit the water, racers will meet in the bar at Barefoot Cove Marina to discuss tips, rules applications, and tactics.

Format:
Discuss rules and strategy in the bar at Barefoot Cove Marina.
All boat types are welcome and all boats start together.
Run 3x 5-min starts on a square line back to back. All boats start together.
Set up a very short windward leeward course
Run an upwind start and instruct racers to race around the windward mark and return to the starting.
Run a downwind start and instruct racers to race around the leeward mark and sail to starboard lay line before tacking back to the starting area. All boats start together. Only raise spinnakers after the start.
If we’re done for the day, return to the pavilion, Else, go back to step 5 and keep having fun.
After the fun, we’ll meet at the CLSA pavilion for hot dogs and Q&A.

This learn to sail course includes 2 days of classroom and 4 days of on-the-water practice. The on-the-water training will be on Lasers and Sunfish which are single-person boats. Tuition for the class is FREE for those who only sign up for the classroom portion. Tuition is $195 for those who sign up for all 6 classroom and on-the-water sessions. Successful completion of this course will result in CLSA Certification, which allows members to sail the club small boats. Our course sessions will be held in the CLSA pavilion from 6:00-8:00 pm on Monday & Tuesday evenings over 3 weeks.

The Hike Out on Route 66 Regatta is a one-design regatta sponsored by Thistle Fleet #66.
This class is designed to encourage and promote sailing activities the whole family can enjoy. You and your child will learn the basics of sailing and gain confidence on the water while sailing pram dinghies, Sunfish or Lasers. Our program will be family orientated for parent and child participants. The class will briefly cover sailing concepts followed by on the water experiences. Classes in each session will be very hands on driven. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Tuition for this class is $50 for both the parent and child to attend. Parents can sign up for either the morning or afternoon session. The morning session starts at 9am and the afternoon session starts at 1pm.

We will be conducting a youth sailing camp in July. Depending upon the number of students enrolled, the morning will be for students between ages 8 -12. The afternoon will be for teenagers. A barbecue lunch will be included for students and volunteers. We hope that students from the parent child class and other CLSA young people will invite their friends to join them for a fun day of sailing at our lake.
Tuition for this class is $25 for each child to attend. Parents can sign their child up for either the morning or afternoon session. The morning session starts at 9am and the afternoon session starts at 1pm.

The Painkiller Regatta is a Thistle one-design regatta sponsored by Thistle Fleet #66.

The Glow-in-the-Dark Regatta is a one-design regatta sponsored by Flying Scot Fleet #135.
Clinton Lake Sailing Association and Fleet 135 are once again excited to host the Glow Regatta at Clinton Lake. If you haven't been to the Glow recently, you have certainly heard about the exceptional racing, food, and fun atmosphere. Online registration and online payment are required in advance of the event. The all-inclusive registration fee ($95) includes the boat registration fee and breakfast/lunch on Saturday and Sunday and dinner on Friday (Potluck) and Saturday (Steaks) for the skipper and one crew member. Additional food passes may be purchased for additional crew and guests. In order to sail in this regatta, a visiting skipper must be a member of the Flying Scot Sailing Association.
